The current invalid paradigm: Why first-generation lone worker solutions, such as panic buttons and trackers, don't work

Panic buttons have two flaws:

  1. They depend on activation by a victim who, by the time an incident occurs, may no longer be able to activate them.
  2. Activation triggers a response process that can take too long and does little to prevent an incident from occurring in the first place.

Bond looks after your people 24/7. Our AI-powered platform can detect anomalies, while Bond Security Agents can respond by video within seconds to help deter and de-escalate an incident.

Protection for lone workers, your wider workforce and their families.

Discover why leading organisations are using Bond to protect their people and families.

3 Misconceptions

Chief Security Officers Have About Bond

Misconception #1

“BOND IS JUST AN IMPROVED PANIC BUTTON OR MERELY A LOCATION TRACKER.”

REALITY

Bond is a new paradigm of AI-Powered Preventative Personal Security.

Bond starts earlier. Our AI-powered platform and 24/7 Bond Security Agents can monitor, detect anomalies, guide, deter and de-escalate situations before they become emergencies.

Bond provides proactive protection, not just a reaction.

Misconception #2

“BOND IS ONLY FOR EXECUTIVES, LONE WORKERS & BUSINESS TRAVELLERS.”

REALITY

Bond is for all employees.

Bond enables organisations to extend personal security beyond traditionally high-risk groups and protect their wider workforce including employees outside protected premises, commuters and remote workers.

Bond customers offer Bond to all employees across their organisations

Misconception #3

“BOND WILL CONTEND WITH CURRENT SECURITY PROJECTS AND PRIORITIES FOR BUDGET AND TIME.”

REALITY

Corporate Security teams introduce Bond to HR who then arranges the budget and rollout.

Security remains engaged and sets the protocols with/for Bond. Optimal Process: Security informs HR about Bond, so they can evaluate it for all employees and get Finance involved.

Security remains engaged andsets the protocols with/for Bond.

Ernst & Young study concludes that Bond will save money (£70 – £120) for the corporation already in the first year of service.

UK Employer Benefit Summary

Bond Security - UK Employer Benefit Assessment
The recently concluded four-month Ernst & Young (EY) study, Bond Security – ROI Assessment, found that organisations offering Bond to their employees can realise significant cost savings, primarily through reduced incident-related absenteeism costs and improved productivity.
A UK adaptation and localisation of the EY study indicates that employers could expect estimated savings of approximately £70–£120 per employee per year.
The analysis retains EY’s underlying model structure and adoption assumptions, while replacing the main US employment and direct-cost inputs with relevant UK benchmarks.

UK Modelled Finding
Using the full employer sick-pay scenario, the model estimates an annual gross benefit of £76.26 per eligible employee per year at EY’s current adoption rate:

  1. Direct benefit of £7.88 per eligible employee per year
  2. Indirect benefit of £68.39 per eligible employee per year
  3. Total gross benefit of £76.26 per eligible employee per year

The total increases to £118.02 per eligible employee when employees are informed about Bond through structured onboarding and adoption rises to EY’s informed-adoption rate.

Where an employer pays only Statutory Sick Pay (SSP), the corresponding totals are £69.51 at current adoption and £107.56 at informed adoption.

THE UK ADAPTATION SUPPORTS IMPORTANT FINDINGS REGARDING BOND:

  1. Preventing incidents or reducing their severity can generate measurable employer benefits. In the UK model, these comprise reduced incident-related paid absence, improved productivity, reduced employee turnover and lower absenteeism.
  2. Bond’s Preventative Personal Security platform is designed to deter incidents, accelerate their detection and response, and reduce their severity and organisational impact.
  3. Structured onboarding materially increases adoption. EY found adoption of approximately 42.3% among eligible employees, increasing to approximately 65.5% among employees who completed live or online onboarding.
  4. Clear privacy assurances can also help address employee concerns about using an employer-sponsored service.

Other Key Takeaways from the UK Employer Benefit Assessment

  1. The model follows a bottom-up, per-employee framework. Direct benefits are calculated using baseline incident risk, expected days away from work, employer sick-pay costs, adoption and EY’s retained risk-reduction assumption.
  2. Indirect benefits are calculated by assessing engagement-related value across productivity, employee turnover and absenteeism.
  3. Gross annual employer benefit is estimated to increase from £69.51–£76.26 at current adoption to £107.56–£118.02 at informed adoption.
  4. The UK estimate excludes ordinary National Health Service care, US workers’ compensation, generic legal and insurance costs, reputational costs and direct incident-driven staff replacement. These may represent additional employer benefits but have not been quantified without reliable UK or employer-specific evidence.

UK Estimate of Employer Value Using Bond Preventative Security

Bond value creation per eligible employee per year: £118.02

  1. £105.83 annual employer benefit per year from enhanced productivity, reduced employee turnover and lower absenteeism
  2. £12.19 annual employer benefit per year from reduced incident-related paid absence

This graphic reflects the informed-adoption, full employer sick-pay scenario. Under the Statutory Sick Pay-only scenario, the estimated total is £107.56.
Bond’s cost is not included, so these figures represent gross annual employer benefit rather than a final return-on-investment percentage.

Why Now? Bond Preventative Personal Security as Workforce Protection
Employee security is no longer solely a workplace issue. Employees may experience personal-security concerns at work, while travelling, in public spaces and in their neighbourhoods and homes.

The Health and Safety Executive estimates that 1.2% of working adults in England and Wales experienced work-related violence during 2024/25. Incidents outside work can also affect an employer through sickness absence, reduced productivity and employee turnover, even where the employer has no legal responsibility for the incident.
Helping employees to be and feel more secure is therefore not only the right thing to do; the UK adaptation indicates that it can also make economic sense.
